Micah: 9 Months Old

Time is flying by! Micah is already 9 months old and there are some things I want to remember about this precious age.

1. Micah calls me "Nay Nay" instead of Mama. I persist in trying to convince him to do otherwise. He smiles looks at me, looks at Marcus and says, "Nay Nay."

2. Micah is crawling and pulling up. He also lets go occasionally. He is roaming the house however he can and terrorizing Marcus by trying to climb on the electronics.

3. He is particular about his food. I have tried introducing delectables like cheese and brown rice, but he won't eat them. He prefers his plain sweet potatoes and spinach to everything else.

4. Micah communicates what he wants even though he doesn't talk. This is not always done by crying. Sometimes he pulls on his diaper when he wants it changed. He crawls over to the exersaucer when he wants to play in it. He crawls over to me and pulls up on my pants when he wants to be picked up. He refuses to open his mouth when he's done eating.

5. I LOVE him more than I know how to communicate with other people. He is joy and I hope that we will have a healthy, loving relationship for the rest of my life and his.

Fall Photos

Kelly made some notes about things she'd like to remember about Isaac at 4 months old and I'd like to do the same for Micah at 6 months old.

1. Micah smiles at everyone. He seems to be a genuinely content and happy person. I pray that we can continue to cultivate that quality.

2. He loves to play with daddy and the bull frog.

3. Micah really likes yams. He will tolerate bananas and spinach, but hates apples. He may not like the applesauce I made because I threw a granny smith in there. :-)

4. He wakes up talking. He can lay in his crib talking to himself for a good 45 minutes before demanding to be fed and changed.

5. Micah's been rolling over for a little while, but today he started rolling across the room and grabbing whatever he finds on the other side. Today it happened to be daddy's laptop.

Growing . . .

Micah grows every day. He is grabbing his toes. He's begun sleeping in 7-8 hour stretches at night. Micah is a wonderful joy and I intend to savor every day I have with him. I believe I know what someone meant when they coined the phrase, "Thank heaven for little boys."

Micah and the T.V.

Marcus and I, the silly new parents that we are, thought that we could continue watching t.v. for a while before our child realized that the television even existed. Boy were we wrong! Micah has discovered the t.v. and we have figured out that, unless we want to groom a future couch potato, the t.v. has to be off when he's awake. He isn't crawling yet, but he is "wiggling." We have been setting him down to play in his "gym" with his back to the television. That trick worked for all of about 24 hours before he learned to twist his body just enough to be able to see the lights and colors. Today, he started watching t.v. upside down! I use a boppy to allow him to see and play with his toys without laying on the back of his head . . . he pushed with his feet until his head was hanging over backward off the pillow so he could watch the images go by . . . he generally hates tummy time, but will tolerate it if he can see our 50 inch screen. Sooooooooo . . . no t.v. for Micah and no t.v. for Marcus and Spring. He's just too young to be watching t.v. We may have to let him watch something for a few moments so Marcus can take a picture of this somewhat comical sight.

No!?

Ok, I am sure that you aren't supposed to count the noises your baby makes as "words" until they know what they mean, but Micah is making sounds that sound a lot like words. Sadly, I am the only one who has heard them and believes. :-) Micah has sad "go!" on multiple occasions and just this morning he said "hi!" Marcus doesn't believe me, but I have no motivation for making this up. It is true . . . Micah is talking to me . . . so far he's a little shy with people who don't talk to him 24/7, but it won't be long before someone else hears his words too.

Micah went to sleep last night around 8ish. He woke up only once before 6am! He got up, quietly at 2 to eat and went back to sleep easily. I didn't sleep easily . . . I've gotten used to being up. I'm sure I will be able to follow his pattern soon.

Whoever decided that running a jackhammer outside of my window at 7am this morning is evil. If I ever have a chance, I am going to give them a piece of my mind. When sleep is so elusive it just isn't right to wreck the one good stretch of sleep you have left before the day starts. :-)

First ride in daddy's car....

Micah rode in my car for the first time today. Spring and I met at the nail shop and I took him home while she stayed and got her nails done. Micah enjoyed the hum of the exhaust system and stiff suspension :-) When he got home he was ready for a nap.

I had just finished taking today's photo for the Micah 365 and all of a sudden Spring grabs the camera to take a photo of us. I'm so used to being "behind" the camera I felt weird. I guess I should have some photos of me with my son, so here's one.

Just got back from church and since Micah was dressed we decided to snap a few photos of him with mom. He smiled real big on this one.
