more visits to the doctor

so we saw the ob for the first time on thursday. it wasn't quite what we expected. i was expecting an ultrasound that would help pinpoint how far along i am. instead, there was a manual exam with a doctor's best guess at a due date using some circle shaped calendar. i do have an ultrasound scheduled for what we think is week ten to try to provide a more accurate estimate of our baby's birthday. i like the doctor. i'm not sure what a good idea it is to have an hmo while pregnant though. so, my ultrasound is scheduled in another office on a different street, and this morning i'm going to the lab on yet another street to have an ob panel done among other things.

i am very excited. funny thing is i have pregnancy side effects that aren't quite as glamorous as the usual vommitting. i have no problem falling asleep, but staying asleep is a problem despite feeling quite exhausted during the day. i have terrible gas. i am really grateful to have avoided the while nausea thing, it would be hard to teach if i were throwing up throughout the morning.

my pants are beginning to feel tight in the waist, but marcus can't see why . . . and that's nice because i don't think i'll be able to say that much longer. it is becoming clear to me that some women look pregnant when they are pregnant and some women look fat (this is after one visit to the ob) . . .i hope i can manage to fall into the first category.

two pink lines

ok. who knew you could plan such a thing, Lord willing. I gained 2.5 last week. I found out this morning when I measured myself for my online weight watchers account. I was of course, devastated, and couldn't imagine that two drumsticks could do that to a girl. I told Marcus tonight that I would take a pregnancy test, because I've eaten some pretty good stuff without gaining that much in one week . . . He wanted to know how many more pregnancy tests I plan to waste without having any of the normal signs other women have used to figure these things out. Well, I peed on a stick. Drumroll please. Twice! And, both times, two pink lines appeared. It doesn't feel quite real yet. It probably won't for a while. Praise God for his mercy which has me feeling ok right now. I pray it continues. So . . . we're gonna have a baby.
